Chapter 12: Love Me, Love My Pet

It’s hard to say which show challenge has been my favorite.

The landmark scavenger hunt in downtown Seoul? I still can’t believe nobody recognized us. Even in those ridiculous hats.

The rubber chicken fight at the hotel?

The noraebang karaoke crawl at three in the morning? Whooo! That night was crazy! I’ve never been so slaphappy in my whole life!

How did we pack that many things into just two short weeks?

No wonder my feet are always sore.

Letty sank down on a park bench and kicked her high heels off with a moan. She curled her legs underneath her skirt and pulled her laptop from the bag at her side.

“How did we do?” she murmured to herself.

Letty looked up a website where she could get the ratings for their show. She did a little fist pump when she saw they were once again the first in their time slot. That made two weeks in a row.

“I guess the Korean public likes quirky girls from America.” She reached over her shoulder and gave herself a well-earned pat on the back.

Not that she was the only one making the show a success. Mimi was busier than ever, splitting her time between Marry My Stalker and public appearances on other variety shows. Shy Ji Ah was now the most popular girl in her high school. And Letty had read multiple internet news stories about Sana’s proprietary behavior with Chance.

It was turning into a hilarious game of televised hide-and-seek as she stalked and her husband hid. The writers recognized comedy gold when they saw it, and were even creating situations to play into the joke. The funniest was when they took the whole cast to a giant stone maze on Jeju Island and put the brides and grooms at opposite ends. The goal was to see which pair could find each other first in the winding corridors, but Chance spent the whole time running away from Sana whenever he heard her voice. Thanks to the creative situations dreamed up by the writers, and the never ending work of the behind-the-scenes crew, their show was a success.

Letty raised her head and saw a handful of the unsung heroes in the distance setting everything up for their next shoot. A man spread a quilt on the ground and placed a wicker picnic basket on top. Two women carried handfuls of fake flowers that they stuck into the grass at random.

“Whose idea was it to take a picnic in the middle of winter?” Letty wondered aloud.

“Not mine, that’s for sure.”

Her favorite unsung hero walked up beside her bundled in a brown coat with a navy woolen scarf double wrapped around his neck.

“Where have you been?” Letty asked as she stowed her laptop in the bag.

“I had to take care of a VIP.” Ben yawned, placed his hands behind him, and stretched backwards.

“Who?”

“Let’s just say it’s a secret.”

Letty eyed him but he refused to offer any more information.

“Do you want me to get you a blanket?” Ben asked.
